about
All This Time is an ethereal ballad about yearning for a younger, prettier, smarter, more charming version of yourself and wishing she could somehow save you from who you are now. Written, produced and recorded at home, the track pairs melancholy pads and atmospheric foley with synthetic guitar to create a lonely, nostalgic, but transcendent vibe.
The track is the fourth single off Slug Dreams, Dolly’s debut album, out September 14, 2021. Slug Dreams is a diverse yet cohesive collection of dreamy ballads, spoken word pieces, moody dance-influenced earworms, and high energy pop, all with Dolly’s signature electronic production style, catchy melodies and an affinity for processed or altered vocals. Its eclectic influences include Kate Bush, Caroline Polachek, Mitski, Oneohtrix Point Never and SOPHIE but Dolly’s sound is one of a kind.
Dolly Dirtbag is a loose collection of warring personalities and the musical and artistic alter-ego of Olivia Hauser, an LA-based avant-pop songwriter and producer. The Dolly pantheon plays with traditional tropes of femininity: the slutty baby, the sassy pre-teen, the scorned woman but also includes a gender-neutral, calm and heavenly slug and seeks to complicate stereotypes by refusing to occupy a stable persona. Dolly thrives most in areas of tension between supposed opposites or differentiated categories: in between characters, genres, genders, in between high and low-brow culture. The project also straddles the line between playful, over-the-top sarcasm and raw emotional vulnerability and in doing so speaks to the universal struggle to forge a self somewhere in between authenticity and performance.
lyrics
Where did the time go
Where did that spirit go
I see her dancing there
Red dress and wild hair
I still hear her laugh
I still feel her cry
She was a firefly
Alone in the night sky
Would you come back home
Give me back your smile
Give me back your eyes
And take back all this time
She still haunts me
I feel her breath on me
She left and took her lies
She left with no goodbyes
I’m all out of steam
Dried up and empty
She’s always so proud
And I need her now
Would you come back home
Give me back your smile
Give me back your eyes
And take back all this time
